Working on the Eastern Side of the Country with KINSHIP digital

After 11 months of working from home in Perth, it was fantastic to have the opportunity to come over to the eastern side of the country and meet my team members in person.

Let’s take a look at some of the exciting things I got up to!

Sunday, May 08 – Touch down in Canberra, ACT

After having my 2 flights delayed, I arrived late Sunday night in none other than the capital city of Australia: Canberra! Quickly jumping in an uber, I arrived at the team dinner to see there was a beer and a chicken parmigiana waiting for me.

I would be lying to say I wasn’t a little nervous leading up to the moment, but I will never forget the excited look on my team member’s faces when they welcomed me to Canberra. The team instantly allowing me to relax and feel comfortable was honestly the highlight of my trip.

Being able to have dinner with everyone was fantastic and immediately gave me a chance to get to know everyone on a more personal level outside of a working scenario.

It was then time to check into my accommodation and get ready for the week ahead.

Monday, May 09 - Tuesday, May 10 – Working with the Canberra team

I then jumped into a very busy week of work in the Canberra CBD.

It was super awesome to work as a team in the office, wrapping up a major project submission as well as collaborating on sales activities and preparing for the TiG event later in the week.

Being able to workshop ideas and brainstorm strategies face to face was incredibly valuable and so much better than being behind a screen.

Even if it was just getting morning coffee together, this definitely reminded me of how much I missed working in person!

Wednesday, May 11- Thursday, May 12 – Technology in Government event (TiG)

With few opportunities to network in person before, TiG was a fantastic opportunity to put my skills to the test and build up relationships with clients and prospects.

I really enjoyed meeting government delegates from so many different areas and discussing how they are using technology to better execute their strategies or address priorities.

It was also extremely valuable to be able to attend a couple of speaker sessions and round table discussions. Listening to industry thought leaders discuss and explore themes such as digital transformation, tech innovation, cyber security, etc. Assisted me to broaden my understanding and knowledge within the digital/tech industry.

Thursday night, I was lucky enough to be invited out for dinner with the KINSHIP team. It was great to celebrate the success of the event at a local restaurant.

Overall, an awesome experience to be involved in such a big event, looking forward to more to come!

Friday, May 13 – Sunday, May 15 – Canberra to Sydney

Ending the week in Canberra by doing some local site seeing, it was time to head up to Sydney!

I hadn’t been to Sydney since I was very young, so I was definitely excited to see what the hype was all about.

I was welcomed by my family that I hadn’t seen for the past 6 years, and some more KINSHIP digital team members I had not met in person before.

Monday, May 16 – Wednesday, May 18

Back into another working week, however this time it was busy Sydney!

Here are some key differences I noticed about Sydney compared to Perth:

  • Everything is much more fast-paced.

  • Roads aren’t great over here… tight, narrow and bumpy.

  • Double-decker trains!!

  • Lots and lots of hills, not flat like Perth.

Wednesday night involved our team building activity; a Dumpling and Cocktail making course.

It was a great opportunity to spend some time with the team outside of work, seeing who could make the best cocktail and craziest dumpling shape!

The course allowed the team to build trust, and encourage communication and collaboration. Not to mention it was a lot of fun!

Thursday, May 19 – Sunday, May 22

I was lucky enough to have a couple of days off towards the end of the week in Sydney. I used this time to catch up with family, as well as do some general tourist activities including:

  • Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb – although this was a little scary, it was great to push myself outside my comfort zone.

  • Circular Quay Walk.

  • Sydney Opera House.

  • Ku-ring-gai National Park – Some great views of West Head.

  • Checking out the Botanical Gardens.

  • Exploring the Sydney nightlife.

The bridge climb was definitely a highlight for me, in particular, it was great to learn some cool history about Sydney whilst taking in the amazing view.

What a jampacked two weeks it has been!

Overall, I feel so privileged to be able to travel over to Canberra and Sydney. Working with my team members in person not only allowed some great collaboration but was a lot of fun.
